Here's a nice little How To showing people how to get high search engine rankings. This blog post led to some sort of weird reaction in me when I first read it. I couldn't figure out what my reaction was. I ended up with a top ten list that might be called "Top Ten Reasons Why Search Is No Longer Relevant":
1. This article pollutes the search engine waters by showing everyone how to game the system
2. This article is a classic hack that shows search engines that their service is on shaky ground - and therefore should show improvement
3. Using search engines in the first place never really drives you to the deepest content
4. This shows that the claims that tagging or user voting is easily gamed are bogus because the alternative is as well
5. This shows that inside the Internet we are seeing the same non-level playing fields that we see in the rest of society. Search engine gaming becomes the new prime time ad campaign.
6. Content is not what is actually being searched and indexed.
7. None of these gaming techniques measures conversation, peer review, or relevance beyond keyword statistics.
8. All search engines have spurious assumptions designed to differentiate them from each other - rather than provide actual depth of search.
9. Search is now a user reflex that is unquestioned, this reflex is being abused and given the direction of the net will not continue - people will switch to better avenues of content location.
10. Google puts their energy into products other than base search because even they know it has a limited shelf life.
