Did You Turn the Spam Filter Off?

I've been asked this a hundred times over the last few months.  My employees, my wife, my father, everyone has been asking me, "Did you turn the spam filter off?"  Now the NYT reports that IT IS NOT MY FAULT!

My personal spam has shot up like a rocket.  A few months ago, I had to turn off Trackbacks and comments on the cooperation commons site because of Spam Bombing.  We were getting 50 spam comments a minute!

The NYT tells us that spam now accounts for a staggering 90% of all email.  So if you have a spam filter and you are getting, say 20 spams in your email box a day, realize this means the filter is picking up at least 180.

It's obscene the volume.  It is clear that a major revolution in e-mail is on the way.  What it will be, I'm not sure.  I have the feeling it will be P2P-based.  Some mail add-in to your instant messenger or something.

But no, e-mail recipients, no one turned the spam filter off, someone turned the spam volume up to 11.
