Two books to recommend, since they happen to be what are in my backpack right now in front of me.

Tom Peters "The Brand You 50" - a bunch of good ideas impossible to execute all at once about making yourself distinctive in the world of work.

Richard Collin, "The New Orleans Underground Gourmet" - my copy is from 1970. 250 restaurant reviews, lots of local culinary history and color. I picked up my copy for 45 cents, Amazon lists some for as little as 33 cents. Very funny and sad all at once.
