Google patented voice chat. So if you were thinking about doing it, get another business plan.
Having worked a lot with voice commanded modules for telematics, I can state the obvious, voice commands are often misinterpreted by current technology. But they are getting a lot better. So, who knows?
The area I think this is most compelling is for section 508 / ADA accessibility issues on the web. We set up the 511 Traffic Site with the help of Quintus Design to exceed section 508 requirements. It wasn't that difficult - mostly an attention to detail and an appreciation for some of the features of screen readers.
But it certainly isn't interactive. If Google plays this right, given that they store historic web information, they could repackage the web in a section 508 context. Providing a defacto accessible layer over all web sites. Which they'd likely call GoogleAccess.
Should be interesting to see if they do it.
