Techcrunch today talks about a new Google Research project that allegedly listens to what's going on around your computer and gives you .. ads and "content"! This is great, now that I've Tivo'ed out all my ads, I get ones popping up around the room.
The scarier version of this would not be from the mike in your laptop - but would be integrated with Windows Media Center edition or an entertainment appliance. That you couldn't shut off.
Bone chilling.
What's funny is that when I first say the headline from TechCrunch:
Google Research prototypes ambient audio contextual content
I thought this listened to the ambient sounds in the room and made cool ambient music that complimented it. That would be neat. But ... it's not. It's more ads.
