About seven years ago, a mighty earthquake shook the City of Seattle. I was in an office building in Issaquah with a bunch of telco guys who built out fiber networks in Mexico. The building shook a little and we all laughed.
Then it felt like freight train smashed into the building and instantly 12 big grown men were hiding under the table.
The drop ceiling looked like it was still being installed and most of the tiles were on the ground.
"Jesus Christ...." someone said.
Then the second train hit.
Some of the cubicles collapsed, one of the sprinkler lines ruptured.
Then, save for the water spraying, all was quiet.
"You think that was it?"
It was. We all climbed out of our hiding places and gathered our bags. I went out and called my wife who was shaken up. I told her I was heading home.
Then I went back into the building and used the restroom. The men's was not the place to be in the earthquake as all the decorative tile has shattered and obviously sent schrapnel flying everywhere.
Back at home, my bookcases and CD cases were ... well distributed around the living and dining rooms.
Due to my wife's disinterest in music, I never bothered to reorganize the music. But on Saturday night this week (I know how to have a good time) I finally alphabetized my music.
I had forgotten I owned much of what I own.
It's like having a little Napster right in my own house.
So I'm sitting here listening to King Crimson's "Beat" and working away. I am a happy camper.
And led to this conversation:
[15:58] OurFounder: Now listening to Mick Karn's Bestial Cluster.
[15:58] OurFounder: I love knowing where my music is.
[15:59] Ken: Even if it's in a bestial cluster somewhere.
[15:59] OurFounder: This is a phenomenal piece of work.
[15:59] OurFounder: It's what led to the Polytown project with David Torn and Terry Bozzio
[15:59] OurFounder: Which was my first date with Caitlin
[15:59] OurFounder: Which led to me cocming back to seattle
[16:00] OurFounder: Where I met Greg
[16:00] OurFounder: Who took me to Symphony of Fire
[16:00] OurFounder: Where i met Vivian
[16:00] OurFounder: Who introduced me to you
[16:00] OurFounder: So without this CD, we would never have met
[16:01] Ken: I was gonna say butterfly effect, but that's actually fairly straightforward causal chain.
[16:03] OurFounder: We owe everything to Mick Karn
