Brian Briggs' funny flow chart made me finally write this.
A few weeks ago, my build of XP started to bog down. So I need to rebuild. Now, back in Win 3.1 days, you never needed to rebuild your box. In Win 95 and ME you had to rebuild about every 3 months. With XP, you have to rebuild about every year to 18 months. So I thought, maybe it's even better with Vista.
And Vista is sooooo pretty.
So I went looking for reasons to upgrade. There was nothing even as useful as Brian's funny flow chart out there.
Here's Microsoft's reasons. Yahoo! News. Here's APC Mag's.
APC Mag's last reason "You have no choice" is the most compelling.
So I figured I'd just do it. Then, at least, we'd have a Vista build for testing our software. But, as a last check, I talked to a friend of mine who works for a company that creates digital music software. I use a lot of their software to compose music and a 2007 new years' resolution has made me promise to use it even more.
He told me that Vista would require major redesigns of most professional digital musical instruments. So that pretty much sealed it for me.
But how will I get the major benefits (security, better graphics) in the near future? I'm going to buy a Mac and run Windows XP and OS X together. It'll be my second Mac ever and my first I've purchased new.
