- Trillian (including MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, ICQ, AIM, Google Talk, IRC, Jabber, and Rendevous)
- MSN Messenger Client (Microsoft won't let me uninstall it)
- Yahoo Messenger Client
- Skype
- Groove
- gMail (with Google Talk stapled to it)
- SMS
- all those freaking clients on my phone
- and Twitter....
and on and on. There is no shortage of ways to chat with people now. And, thank God!, Google has come up with yet another! Today they've introduced the Google Talk widget that you can put in your Google home page! Imagine the awesome utility of being able to chat, yet again, from your browser!
They say:
We're thrilled to be launching a new way to use Google Talk today. The Google Talk Gadget is a web-based module that you can add to your Google Personalized Homepage, letting you see your friends and chat with them -- all on your homepage.
Please Google, take the money you were going to spend on spinning chat into another place it does belong and give it to Cerulean Studios to speed up their release of Astra, which is bound to be the only thing worthy to replace Trillian.
I want Astra so badly I can taste it.
Google Talk is a great idea, but Trillian and Astra are great execution.
